Weekly Highlights 20/06/2025

Weekly Highlights is a weekly newsletter sent by the BVIS Leadership Team to parents, providing updates on notable news and activities at the school. The newsletter consists of three main sections: updates from the Principal, Head of Primary, and Head of Secondary.

Dear Parents,
This week’s Highlights is the last one that I write as Principal of BVIS HCMC before I move across the city to take up my new role as Principal of our sister school, BIS HCMC from 1st August 2025.

Over the last 7 years, it has been an honour and a privilege to lead our school and hopefully, I have managed to make a real difference to the hearts and minds of all who have experienced what it truly is like to be part of the BVIS HCMC community.
Thank you to all our incredible staff whose hard work and dedication makes the real difference both inside and outside of the classroom. Thank you to our amazing students, who wear our uniform with pride and give 100% in all that they do. Thank you for the unwavering support from our parent and wider BVIS community – what a team!
As I look ahead to my next challenge, I look forward to hearing how BVIS continues to move onwards and upwards into the future. Never underestimate how special this school really is with academic rigour, care and personalised attention and a happy, safe and flourishing culture at the heart of everything it offers.

I would like to personally wish Ms Dee and everyone at BVIS HCMC a very peaceful and relaxing summer break and all the very best for the new academic year ahead.
Graduation
Last Saturday, 91 Year 13 students attended this year’s Graduation event at the JW Marriott hotel in District 1. With a total of 400+ students, staff and family members attending, it was an afternoon to remember.
I would like to share with you a few words that formed part of my speech last weekend and hope that they resonate with you as much as they do with me:
"Always remember that no matter how old you really are, and how wise you believe you are, your family is always there for you. Graduates, please remember to always take time to connect with them, give them a reassuring call, text, DM or even just a smiley emoji from time to time, to essentially say the 4 most important words that any parent wants to hear – ‘love you’ and ‘thank you’. That’s true kindness!"
Maya Angelou said that “It takes courage to be kind” so I urge you to be courageous and above all be kind to everyone, no matter where you are or whatever you do."

Congratulations to our Class of 2025!
Please take time to read through the many incredible University offers that our current Year 13 students have now received by visiting the 'News' section of our school website.
One recent example is Eric who has received acceptance letters from 7 top universities in the U.S. and Canada, along with a total of $235,000 in scholarships (approximately 6.1 billion VND)

Parents may also find it useful to contact their child’s class teacher(s) or form tutor directly for all individual queries about their academic work/social and emotional wellbeing in school. Individual contact details can be found in the Parents’ Handbooks or via our Primary/Secondary Receptionists.
As always, on behalf of everyone at our school, I wish you fun packed final week of Term 3 and a well-deserved summer ahead!
Take care and continue to be kind to one another.

Celebrating a Year of Learning
This week, our primary students came together for our wonderful End-of-Year Celebration Assemblies, and what a great way it was to round off a successful academic year. These assemblies were a fantastic opportunity for all of us to reflect on and remember the countless special moments in their learning journeys throughout the year.
The air was filled with pride and excitement as the incredible achievements of our students were highlighted, both collectively and individually. From academic milestones to creative triumphs, and from developing new skills to demonstrating incredible growth in their social and emotional learning, every student had something to celebrate. It was heartwarming to see them cheer on their friends and take pride in their own accomplishments.
These assemblies were not just about looking back; they were also about recognising the unique contributions of each student and acknowledging the vibrant, supportive community we have built together. We are so incredibly proud of every single primary student for their hard work, resilience, and all the wonderful ways they have grown this year.
Year 5 Visit the HCMC History Museum
Our Year 5 students had an incredible time this week on their day trip to the History Museum and traditional water puppet show. This outing complemented their classroom learning, offering a unique cultural experience and bringing their topic to life in an engaging and memorable way.
The Year 5 teachers were proud of how the students represented BVIS. While out and about in Ho Chi Minh City, their integrity, respect, and care were truly exemplary. We are proud of their wonderful behaviour and enthusiasm throughout the entire trip. Well done, Year 5!

What a Week of Splashes and Smiles!
Our Super PE Department wrapped up a fantastic year of swim development with an exhilarating series of Swim Galas for our primary students this week. From F3 all the way to Year 6, every student had a truly splashing time showcasing the incredible skills they have honed in the water.
It was wonderful to see so many parents join us poolside to spectate and cheer, creating a fantastic atmosphere of encouragement and excitement. Your presence helped us commend and appreciate every student's hard work and effort throughout the year. We are so proud of all our young swimmers and their amazing progress.
Swimming is a sport that not only helps maintain a healthy lifestyle but also provides an essential life skill for our students. Being able to swim well and survive in water is something that the school strives for every student to achieve by the end of their primary years to ensure they can keep safe and make the right decisions when near or in water. The three BVIS swimming pools from the shallow EYFS splash pool, to the indoor training pool and finally to our competitive 25m outdoor swimming pool, provide students and teachers with the facilities needed to support a safe and progressive swim development programme. With the summer holiday just around the corner, I encourage families to take their children swimming to practice their water skills and prepare them for the next stage of their swim development.
Thank you to our PE department for organising and facilitating the special swim galas for our primary students.

Another year at BVIS draws to a close, but what a year it has been and what exciting developments we can look forward to next year! There will be updated facilities and brand-new learning spaces, new faces and new initiatives that we are already very excited about. The school will continue to grow and develop, and we all have a role and a responsibility in this process.I hope that you and your family has a wonderful and relaxing summer break, however you choose to spend it, and you come back refreshed and ready to enjoy another brilliant year at BVIS.
Transition
Last week, we were delighted to welcome our Year 4, 5, and 6 children into Secondary for a series of engaging Transition Days designed to give them a taste of life in their Secondary years. On Wednesday, Year 4 and 5 students joined us for sample lessons, where they experienced a range of subjects and met several of our Secondary teachers and student leaders. It was a wonderful opportunity for them to explore some new classrooms and begin to build confidence about the journey ahead. On Thursday, it was Year 6’s turn to take part in academic taster sessions. They enthusiastically engaged in a variety of lessons and also met a range of our Secondary teachers and Student Leaders.
To round off the week, Friday was dedicated to Year 6 pastoral transition. Students spent the full day in their house groups, getting to know their Heads of House and new friends. The day included a fun scavenger hunt around Secondary, creative house banner-making, and the creation of a house chant, which they performed at an end of the day assembly. The creativity, collaboration, and energy on display were truly impressive.
We were thrilled with the high levels of enthusiasm and engagement from the current Year 6’s, and we hope that this experience has sparked excitement across the year group who we very much look forward to welcoming into Secondary in August.
