Student Highlights & Success Stories (30/03 - 03/04/26)

Dear Families
Last weekend, BVIS hosted a city-wide chess competition run and hosted by our students. Well done to everyone involved.

University offers continue to pour in for our students and I am pleased to see so many offers already on the table to some amazing university and colleges across the world.

It is that time of year when the school starts to run various sports days for our younger students. We have already seen an incredible EYFS and Y3/4 sports day events in the last two weeks. Well done everyone involved.

Just a final reminder about our Book Bazaar tomorrow starting from 9.00 to 12.00 tomorrow morning. We hope many of you will join this great event.

Workshop: Mastering Applications To The Universities Of California With A Levels
On Tuesday 31 March 2026 we were very fortunate to have UC Riverside's, Assistant Provost of International Recruitment, Mr Jun Wang and Recruitment Specialist Ms Vivian Vo in our school to help parents and students find their way through the application process.
This presentation was specifically for BVIS students with their A Level qualifications. Mr Wang and Ms Vo gave a clear and in-depth explanation of how A-Levels are a great qualification for applications as they can often accrue credits for the Universities (subject to grades attained and courses applied to).

Our Marvelous Maths Department
This year, the Y12 Further Maths group have been working hard to complete a 2-year course in 9 months. This has involved fast paced lessons and lots of independent consolidation and practice at home. Now we are revising and preparing for the final exams in 1 month. Active learning and revision is so important in this time to reinforce key ideas, understand mark schemes and discuss where common errors can occur. Today students worked in pairs on a carousel of ‘hard’ questions in timed conditions. Students rotated around the room, marking the previous pair’s work and looking at ways the solution could be improved for more marks. Getting up and moving around the room every few minutes kept energy levels high for a double lesson.

Learning Mathematics is easier when students can investigate new ideas by working in groups and testing theories. This week in Y9 Mathematics, students have been learning about proportion. Rather than learning from written examples, they carried out an investigation to look at the time it takes to complete a task and how it decreases when more people share the same work. This helped students to understand the concept of inverse proportion. It was a fun lesson, building shapes against a timer, recording results, and interpreting them.
