Welcome to the First Edition of BVIS Buzz newsletter, produced by our Primary students.

Over the last few weeks, students in our Primary school have been taking part in ‘Hack The Tube’, an activity designed by our partners at MIT.

Creative art activities can help children in all areas of development. Here at the British Vietnamese International School, Hanoi, children learn through a thematic approach and have the luxury of specialist art lessons each week. The creative activities planned consider the child’s overall development. They also contain many cross-curricular links with topics the children cover with their class teacher. Here, I outline some ways that art activities can support young children's development and why art is such an important part of a child’s cognitive development.

In January 2017, I was so lucky to join Nord Anglia’s Middle Leaders’ Programme. The first of two residential aspects was held in Cambodia with other teachers from different Nord Anglia schools. All the teachers were incredibly professional, creative, enthusiastic and happy to learn from each other. I’m sure that we all were inspired by the great course leader John Nicholls.

This week saw the first of our ‘Creative writing workshops’ for students in Years 5 and 6.

The children in Year 2 had a wonderful camping day last week as the Exit Point for the IPC topic, 'Hooray, let’s go on Holiday'.

Here at BVIS Hanoi, the student council has a very important role; they are the voice of all of the students in our care and ambassadors for our school.

The 'Pied Piper of Hamelin' show will take place at 5pm in the BVIS main auditorium on Wednesday 22nd June.

School trips are such wonderful opportunities for the teachers and TAs to spend time with the students in an informal, relaxed setting and to get to know them better.

The aim of the RAK CLUB is to encourage positive interactions in our school community.

The day was very well organised and the students had lots of fun playing against many other schools.

Before half-term break, Year 2 successfully celebrated a camping day to end their IPC topic on Holidays.

What a creative week the children in the Primary section have had! Together we celebrated ‘Book Week’, and the children were engaged in a wide variety of activities planned to create a love for books and reading.

The House system is an integral part of our pastoral care program for your children. Each week the children try and emulate the 6 aspects of the Aide Memoire, to be good global citizens, to gain House Points for the House they are assigned to.

This Wednesday (24th June), all students from F1 to Y6 gathered in the Primary Prize Giving Assembly for this 2014-2015 academic year.

Tragically, drowning is one of the leading causes of death in children over the age of one in Vietnam and the Vietnam Ministry of Health Statistics state that at least 10 children drown here every day. Clearly, swimming is not only a fun activity or just sport but a vital life skill and here at BVIS we want to start making a change to this statistic.
