The Nord Anglia International School Shanghai, Pudong community came together for a fantastic Community Sports Morning with our Early Years, Primary Years and their parents. Filled with energy and excitement, the day started bright and early, with Primary students beginning the activities first, followed by our EY children shortly after.

At NAIS Pudong, STEAM is an important part of our primary school curriculum. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths, and at NAIS Pudong we also incorportate History and Geography into these lessons. When teaching STEAM, our teachers always consider these three principles: make it clear, make it practical, and make it local.

At Nord Anglia International School Pudong, we remain committed to ensuring every child experiences a clear and purposeful learning journey. This month, we were delighted to officially launch our new Primary Skills Framework, a major development designed to strengthen clarity, consistency and connection across Reading, Writing and Mathematics. The framework was introduced to families during our recent Tuesday Talk, where parents attended a dedicated presentation and received their own copy of the accompanying booklet.

Our Year 6 and 7 adventurers had an incredible Enrichment Week exploring the stunning coastal regions of Fujian Province with Wild China Education. They immersed themselves in marine ecology, local culture, and environmental conservation across Luoyuan and Pingtan.

Last Friday, our Year 3 students enjoyed an unforgettable overnight camping trip right here on campus. Excitement filled the air as they arrived with sleeping bags and big smiles, ready for a night of fun and friendship. Working together to set up their tents, they showed great confidence and teamwork while creating their perfect camping spots.

Neuroscientific research shows that 90% of brain development happens between birth and age five, a critical window for shaping a child’s future. During this time, sensory experiences, social interactions, and cognitive stimulation lay the foundation for learning, emotional regulation, and personality development. With this in mind, we foster a “Teach-Nurture-Care” early education system, where guided, play-based learning and a safe, nurturing environment help every child thrive.

Last Friday, our NAIS Pudong campus was full of joy and celebration as we welcomed parents to this year's Primary showcase along with transition assemblies for both Reception and Year 6 students — a highlight of the year that brings our vibrant community together.

Ahead of last week’s Christmas Fair, the Early Years and Primary classrooms were buzzing with parents who were invited into school for our termly Student Showcase.

Our Y4, Y5 and Y6 students headed to Nantong last week to immerse themselves in three days of hands-on activities that develop practical skills and teamwork.  From fun games such as archery tag, to boat-building competitions, orienteering, survival skills, and cultural engagement, the event was built around the UN Strategic Development Goals of Quality Education (SDG4), Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG11), and Climate Action (SDG13).

As the festive spirit envelops the school, the anticipation of the Christmas season is palpable! Late November marked a delightful celebration at NAIS Pudong, where the Early Years and Year 1 students took centre stage to showcase their endearing Christmas Jukebox performance. The performing arts centre was brimming with with joy as these young talents, with their innocent voices and adorable dance moves, captivated the audience. Laughter echoed through the hall, especially during the charming 'Dad-calling' moments that added an extra layer of warmth to the event.

There's implementation of two new programmes in our school: Accelerated Reader and Star Reading Assessment. Accelerated Reader is a computer programme that provides quizzes for children to take after reading books. Similarly, Star Reading Assessment is another online tool that allows teachers to grade students' reading levels and helps them to monitor their progress.

Our students are continually developing skills in secondary school, they have an outstanding preliminary understanding of maths in primary school, and this week our young learners have been working incredibly hard to build some of those core areas.

We're exploring just some of the activities from school this week, and the academic journey began with a world of wonder and creativity!

Writing is a critical part of the Primary curriculum at NAIS Pudong; it helps children to become better communicators and to express their thoughts and ideas in a clear and structured way. At the end of last term, we held a student showcase to demonstrate the outstanding progress our students make across the course of a single academic year. Parents were invited into the school to help them understand more about how their children learn and were given presentations by the students in various formats.

Leyi from NAIS Pudong has recently been honoured as one of the brightest students in the world by The Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY).

Our recent toddler group “Tiny Tots” has been a real success, it was not only aimed at supporting relationships between children and parents but also to provide a range of experiences to promote learning and development for the child.

At this time of year, there are lots of events and student-led activities coming together, which means all members of the school community are very busy.

The opportunity to perform is a big part of the Primary experience for all students and we saw our Year 5 and 6 children do just this on Tuesday and Wednesday.
