Ten student leaders from BISS Puxi represented the school at the ACAMIS Student Leadership Conference at United World College, Changshu. According to the ACAMIS website, the conference is grounded in the principles of Academic and Cultural Enrichment (ACE). It was designed to provide a safe, inclusive and enriching environment where students could collaborate, test ideas and develop the confidence and skills required to lead change beyond their own school context.

It is Thursday, Period 2 and the Year 10 artists are analysing the portraiture work of Lucian Freud and Francis Bacon. The two artists are often positioned in opposition yet connected by a shared insistence on presence. Whilst their handling of paint, surface and distortion differs, both use portraiture to confront the viewer with form that feels weighted, exposed and unresolved. Our discussion centres on how these works are perceived: not as images to be read quickly, but as encounters that demand sustained looking and emotional attention.

Recently, the school received excellent news as our Year 11 early entry IGCSE Mathematics students received their results from the November examination session. The outcomes were absolutely outstanding, with every student achieving a Grade 8 or Grade 9, and the majority securing the highest possible grade. These results reflect both the students’ commitment and the high level of support provided by their teacher.

Earlier this year, I had the incredible opportunity to travel to Orlando, Florida, to participate in the Business Professionals of America (BPA) National Leadership Conference (NLC) - an experience that challenged, inspired and rewarded me in unforgettable ways. From the Shanghai Regional Round to the Chengdu National Round, and finally, just a week ago, the Orlando Global Round, our BPA journey over the past six months has been unlike anything we’ve ever experienced.

On Saturday 9 May, students from our three Nord Anglia schools in Shanghai - NAIS Pudong, BISS Puxi and NACIS - came together for a one-day STEAM Bootcamp, hosted at BISS Puxi. It was a brilliant opportunity for students in Years 7–9 to connect across campuses, take on hands-on challenges, and apply their creativity and problem-solving skills in exciting, real-world contexts.

The team set off to Chengdu to compete in the first NAE Multisports games since 2019. Twenty-one boys and girls, from Years 4 and 5 were looking forward to competing in a two-day tournament of athletics and football. For most of these students, this was their first sports tour and there was a great deal of excitement, sprinkled with a touch of nervousness.

Students applying to the United States have earned acceptances from respected universities like New York University, Tufts University, University of Southern California and University of California San Diego.

This year’s British Science Week at BISS was a resounding success, filled with student-led activities that brought science to life in the most engaging and interactive ways. Under the theme of ‘Change’ and ‘Adaptation’, students explored how science evolves to solve global challenges by taking part in a variety of hands-on experiments, competitive quizzes, and thought-provoking discussions.
