The British International School Shanghai is entering an exciting new phase of development, with major upgrades designed to enrich every stage of school life — from our youngest learners in Early Years to our Senior School students preparing for university.

We’re proud to share some exciting news that reflects the incredible dedication of our students, staff, and wider school community. BISS has achieved Silver of the prestigious Social Impact Distinction – marking the school’s significant progress on working within NAE’s Social Impact Distinction programme.

The British International School Shanghai, Puxi is proud to celebrate the remarkable achievements of its 2025 IGCSE cohort. This year’s students have once again demonstrated exceptional academic performance, achieving results that significantly exceed UK national averages.

The British International School Shanghai, Puxi (BISS Puxi) has been awarded the Nord Anglia Education Social Impact Bronze Certificate, a significant accolade that recognises the school’s deep commitment to embedding the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) into its core ethos and daily practice.

We're very proud to announce that BISS has successfully renewed its accreditation with the Council of British International Schools (COBIS). On top of this, BISS has been awarded 'Beacon Status'.

The British International School Shanghai, Puxi (BISS), is proud to continue investing in world-class facilities that support students’ physical development, creativity and overall wellbeing. The school is delighted to announce some major upgrades to its campus that will significantly enhance both sporting and performing arts provision across Primary and Secondary.

The time had come for our BISS student athletes to showcase their talents in the 2025 Primary FOBISIA Friendly Games. Flagbearers, William Eagle Wang and Lucy Coffin, led us into the stadium under the scorching 34-degree weather with high humidity. Day 1 commenced with athletics and swimming.

BISS film students receive this unique opportunity with the top film producer after winning the Nord Anglia Global Campus Film Festival Competition. This competition involved 960 students from 22 Nord Anglia schools worldwide.

Earlier this year, I had the incredible opportunity to travel to Orlando, Florida, to participate in the Business Professionals of America (BPA) National Leadership Conference (NLC) - an experience that challenged, inspired and rewarded me in unforgettable ways. From the Shanghai Regional Round to the Chengdu National Round, and finally, just a week ago, the Orlando Global Round, our BPA journey over the past six months has been unlike anything we’ve ever experienced.

The team set off to Chengdu to compete in the first NAE Multisports games since 2019. Twenty-one boys and girls, from Years 4 and 5 were looking forward to competing in a two-day tournament of athletics and football. For most of these students, this was their first sports tour and there was a great deal of excitement, sprinkled with a touch of nervousness.

As our Year 13 students prepare for IB exams, they continue to receive exciting university offers from around the world. New additions to our list include renowned institutions such as New York University (Shanghai and New York), Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (Italy), and McGill University (Canada). Students applying to the United States have earned acceptances from respected universities like New York University, Tufts University, University of Southern California and University of California San Diego.

BISS student, Florencia, has been recognised by IMG Academy for her incredible sportsmanship and skill in volleyball, earning her a summer scholarship to Florida.

The British International School Shanghai, Puxi, is once again celebrating outstanding IBDP results. Graduates achieved an exceptional average score of 34.5 — well above the world average of 30.

Catherine and her son Marcus (Year 2) joined BISS in August 2023, but why did they choose our school? Catherine sat down to speak with us about what attracted her to apply, how she found the admissions process, and much more!

We walked out of school and on to the bus, bursting with adrenaline and excitement, on our way to NACIS. The ride was great fun, our small Drama group laughing at silly things such as Sofia’s drawn on moustache (ready for the performance, and lots of group selfies were taken.

On Monday 24 May, BISS Puxi students experienced one of their first competitive Sports Days. This Sports Day is the third in a series of five Sports Days hosted by BISS Puxi. Although activities such as running, jumping, and throwing feature in all five Sports Days, the timing, complexity, and competitiveness of each Sports Day is heightened as the student progresses through the school.

We would like to invite students to participate in the upcoming Performing Arts recitals on Monday 1 March – Thursday 4 March.

It’s great to be back. The school is starting to feel like the BISS Puxi of August 2019, before all of the quarantine and supervision rules and staggered leaving times. It has been a long summer with many people working hard to ensure the school has taken all of the necessary steps to ensure we were able to open again safely.
