Students at The Village School recently took part in a unique and impactful event to raise awareness about youth homelessness. Organized by senior Alessio Berard, the sleepout event brought 26 students together for a night spent sleeping outdoors, simulating the experience of homelessness.

Body shaming is a harmful form of bullying that targets individuals based on their physical appearance, causing significant psychological and emotional distress. Alarmingly, children as young as nine years old experience body shaming and may struggle with its effects throughout adolescence. Dana Sheridan, LPC, a school counselor at The Village School, shares her insights on this critical issue and offers strategies for effectively combating it, particularly among children.

During the summer time, vacations, pools, and fun are certainly on children’s minds. However, it’s also important to incorporate learning into their day. Summer learning loss, also known as the "summer slide," refers to the decline in academic and social skills that can occur when children are not engaged in educational activities during the summer months. Dana Sheridan, LPC, Lower School Counselor at The Village School, sheds light on this issue and offers practical solutions for parents to keep their children's minds active during the long summer break.

Paul N. comes alive when he plays the piano. As he presses each key, his body moves with the music. He feels each note and lives for the audience to enjoy each melody, each composition. This year he performed at Carnegie Hall, showcasing his remarkable talent at just 12 years old.

Vrisan Shah didn’t always enjoy writing, but his parents saw his talents and encouraged him to enter a writing contest when he was in third grade at The Village School. Three years later, he’s the author of three books. "Initially, I didn't enjoy writing, but I always had stories swirling in my head," explained Vrisan Shah, now a sixth grader at The Village School. "When my parents suggested I enter a writing contest, I thought, 'Why not give it a try?'"

A strong parent-teacher relationship is crucial to a child's academic and personal development. When parents and teachers work together, it creates a support system benefiting the child in numerous ways, from improved academic performance to enhanced social skills and overall well-being.

Yuvi, a Village fifth grader, loves music and dogs. Combining these passions, he came up with the idea of launching "Wild Tunes," a musical therapy program for shelter animals.

The Village School won the prestigious, Best Private School,  title at the Houston Chronicle’s Best of the Best Gala 2023.

In an effort to cultivate strong relationships with foreign countries represented in our diverse and international community, The Village School recently launched a program called Consular Connections. As part of this new program, we hosted several representatives from both the French Embassy and General Consulate, as well as the Vietnamese General Consulate in Houston.

A senior at The Village School, Anastacia Y. already has a fully-functioning business to her name. She is the founder and owner of Elcove, an environmentally conscious company that provides a variety of cleaning product capsules and reusable bottles. Elcove’s toxin-free products aim to replace the single-use plastic bottles often found in grocery store cleaning aisles.

In collaboration with UNICEF, secondary school students from Nord Anglia Education, the world’s leading premium schools organization, have converged in New York City for seminars, debates and speaking opportunities, including presentations at the High-Level Political Forum at the Headquarters of United Nations.

The Village School BioQuattuor team won first place in the national Thomas Edison Pitch Contest against more than 50 middle school teams. They presented their sweat-powered insulin nanobot prototype to the panel of judges May 17 via a video conference and have been awarded a 3D printer for the school as well as individual gift cards.

Village Basketball player Nestor D. was named VYPE Private School Boys Hooper of the Year for his impressive performance in his senior season. Nestor was elected by popular poll and chosen over numerous other contenders.
