During the summer time, vacations, pools, and fun are certainly on children’s minds. However, it’s also important to incorporate learning into their day. Summer learning loss, also known as the "summer slide," refers to the decline in academic and social skills that can occur when children are not engaged in educational activities during the summer months. Dana Sheridan, LPC, Lower School Counselor at The Village School, sheds light on this issue and offers practical solutions for parents to keep their children's minds active during the long summer break.

Diana Struve's return to Village as an educator marks not just a professional milestone but a heartfelt homecoming to the institution that shaped her formative years. Diana shares her reflections on cherished memories, the evolution of her perspective, and the profound influence of her Village experience.

When Aria K. started the 3rd grade, she faced a challenge she never expected. “When I moved up, I got separated from all my friends. We had been together for three years, and being apart from them was just a horrible feeling,” said Aria.

Jana Aldin is a high school senior at The Village School where she has been a student since Pre-K. As she approaches graduation, she reflects on her education, her fondest memories, and her greatest achievements.

Animal lovers and welfare advocates of all ages and backgrounds gathered at Resurrection MCC in the Heights for the first-ever Wild Tunes concert – “Melodies of Gratitude” to raise money and awareness for shelter animals at Houston Pets Alive! (HPA!).  

Third grade student Ary Singh had the honor of being Head of School for the day, and he didn’t let his lack of managerial experience get in the way of making an impact.

A strong parent-teacher relationship is crucial to a child's academic and personal development. When parents and teachers work together, it creates a support system benefiting the child in numerous ways, from improved academic performance to enhanced social skills and overall well-being.

The verdict is still out regarding how much screen time is safe for our kids. Often you may leave even more confused depending on who you talk to. Digital Citizenship Week is right around the corner in October, so no better time than now to well verse yourself in ways to create a positive culture around how we use media and technology in this ever-evolving digital world.

Yuvi, a Village fifth grader, loves music and dogs. Combining these passions, he came up with the idea of launching "Wild Tunes," a musical therapy program for shelter animals.

Juan Pablo Nunez Rodriguez developed two businesses while at The Village School. His most recent business, Kidszonee, is an organization which matches high school students as instructors with young students in activities such as music, art, physical education, and cooking.

Village siblings Shirin and Sam Bekker wanted to share their healthy recipes with people around the world. In order to do this, they began developing a cookbook to show people around the world how healthy eating can be delicious.

The Village School middle school team placed second overall 2018 PSIA state meet April 29. Village is now ranked in the top ten of “AA” Champion Schools this year. It is thanks to the individual placements of students that the team was able to rank highly.

The Middle School TMSCA State Team won 6th Place Sweepstakes in the 6A Division for Texas. As well as seventh place overall in Number sense, fifth place overall in Calculator team, eleventh place overall in General Math, and seventh place overall in General Science.

Over 100 students from private schools from the South Texas Region met on April 14th at St. Thomas Catholic High School. Village had 36 students in 38 solo and 1 ensemble string and piano entries. 28 Village students received high honors. Seven solo student entries performed a level one piece (the highest classification of the UIL Prescribed Music List) and received a superior rating, making them eligible to advance to the State Round of the contest.

The Village School was well represented at the District PSIA meet March 3, 2018 with a total of 58 individual awards. Our Village team of combined elementary and middle school students came in 2nd place with a total of 30 State Qualifiers. Our elementary students (which includes 5th grade) came in 1st for the team.

From September 19 – September 28, Frantic Assembly’s practitioners will mentor Village students on the foundational building blocks of theater.

The Village School's varsity football team is hosting their first official game on Friday, September 8th, at 6:00pm.

The Village School is excited to announce that five of our students are featured in the 2017 Creative Writing & Visual Arts Anthology from Nord Anglia Education.

The Village School participated in the 2017 Texas Private School Music Educators Association Instrumental State Solo & Ensemble Competition at the Fort Worth Country Day School recently.
