Artificial intelligence is already transforming how we learn, work, and solve problems. Answers are faster, easier, and everywhere. But when answers are instant, something else matters more than ever: your child’s ability to think independently, question thoughtfully, and adapt with confidence.

Today, children in Dubai are growing up in a world where the question is no longer, “can students find the right answer?”.It’s: “can they understand it, challenge it, and use it wisely?”

At Swiss International Scientific School Dubai (SISD), we focus on developing these essential thinking skills every day.

We acknowledge that AI is being used by our students as atoolto help provide them with answers. What we are focusing on is supporting themto understand the meaning to then ethically use obtained information. Our core aim is to support and encourage our students to question, adapt and use gained AI knowledge purposefully.

Reflect before responding

In Early Years, teachers encourage students to think carefully before answering through routines such as “turn and talk,” visible thinking prompts and play-based provocations. In Primary, students are given opportunities to reflect on their learning, explain their reasoning and revisit their thinking throughout inquiries and discussions.

Explore different perspectives

Through the Primary Years Programme, students are encouraged to understand that people may have different opinions, experiences and viewpoints. In Early Years, this may happen through storytelling, role play and collaborative play. Our students explore multiple perspectives through inquiry units, debates, discussions and real-world connections.

Explain and justify their thinking

Rather than simply giving answers, students are encouraged to explain how they know something, share evidence and communicate their reasoning. Teachers use open-ended questioning to deepen thinking and encourage curiosity across all year levels.

Solve problems independently

From an early age, students are encouraged to take ownership of challenges, think creatively and try different strategies. In Early Years, this may look like problem-solving through construction, play and social situations. In Primary, students apply these skills through inquiry, mathematics, design challenges and collaborative learning experiences.

A key focus at SISD is developing confident, reflective and independent learners who are equipped not only with knowledge, but with the skills to think critically, communicate effectively and navigate the world around them.
