News | Homepage Feature | Secondary Dominik's STEAM Journey: From Motivating PBIS Students to Engineering Computer Networks
As the saying goes, if you want something done right, you’ve got to do it yourself. Now at the Faculty of Informatics at CVUT (Czech Technical University in Prague), Dominik’s journey to studying computer science began out of obstinance–he didn’t want to pay anyone else to run his servers, so he figured out how to do it. He hasn’t forgotten his roots, though. Now he pays it forward by mentoring PBIS (Prague British International School) students through a collaboration with his university in hopes of inspiring the next generation of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) academics.

Come on, it’s not rocket science. For some people it is! A 2022 graduate from PBIS, Ilyes is currently working on his bachelor's degree with a focus on mechanical engineering, physics, and computer science at Sorbonne University in Paris. Apart from his academic work, he’s also working on a modest side project: developing a jet engine. His approach, in his own words, is to “learn as much as possible about everything” so he can apply his knowledge to real-world situations and make the world a smarter, better place.

Coming from a family of skiers, Matyas never thought that skiing would become his long-term pursuit and passion. He has always been a sports enthusiast, from water sports to athletics and his beloved football. As his skiing progressed, he had to give up other sports to solely focus on skiing. His journey in skiing began years ago when his parents put him on little skis at the age of three. Since then, he has been part of the Czech National Team, competing in international races and competitions and is now aiming at the US where he wants to study and be part of the university ski teams.

It all started with her mother seeing a Latin American dance club next to Ioana’s kindergarten. As soon as she saw it, she immediately took five-year-old Ioana to try her first lesson. Years later, after hours of hard work and passion for Latin American and Ballroom dancing, Ioana became part of the Czech National Dance Team and until two years ago, when she decided to focus on her business studies within the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, she was a successful dancer. Studying Business, Psychology, English, Spanish, Math, and Environmental Systems and Societies she is now focusing on her future and a new dream; to start her own perfume company.
