We, as educators at Northbridge International School Cambodia, believe that incorporating a regular dose of current events into everyday lessons has a multitude of benefits. Research indicates that for students to become competent lifelong learners, they must learn how to use nonfiction materials to expand their knowledge base, solve problems, and make decisions.

On 17-18 November, the Northbridge International School Cambodia Nagas Senior Volleyball teams traveled to Ho Chi Minh City to compete in the ASAC tournament at ISHCMC. This tournament was a great level of competition and the Nagas held their own over the three days of play.

The incorporation of technology in the mathematics classrooms at Northbridge International School Cambodia is an essential tool for students to build 21st century skills. In addition, students are now preparing for employment opportunities that do not currently exist. As a result the ability to use technology in solving problems has become a strong transferable skill.

Technology in schools such as Northbridge International School Cambodia can be used in a number of ways, mainly to (a) substitute for traditional instruction, (b) change and transform instruction, or (c) redefine how kids learn and showcase that learning.

Welcome to the monthly update from the Northbridge International School Cambodia Parent Council. First of all, we would like to express our sincere thanks to all parents who were involved in this year's Cultural Day celebrations. You helped make this wonderful event for the whole school a huge success by contributing both amazing performances and fantastic food.

From 19-25 October, 18 Grade 6 and 7 Northbridge International School Cambodia students had the adventure of a lifetime. As part of Nord Anglia Education’s Global Campus Worldwide Expeditions program, they were able to visit the Alps in Switzerland to trek for two days, learn about local culture and climb a vertical incline on the side of a mountain.

Grade 5 students at Northbridge International School Cambodia recently undertook a project-based learning unit to design and program a podcast station for our school community.

Grade 2s 'How We Organize Ourselves' unit focused on production processes. The central idea was “Many products go through a process of change before they are consumed or used.”

Northbridge congratulates our Junior Girls and Boys basketball teams on an amazing end to their season. This past weekend both teams competed in the first ever ASAC Junior Basketball tournament here at NISC and made our school very proud.

A few weeks ago, in preparation for our Cultural Festival, I wrote a blog post about how multicultural understanding could be developed at home. Now that the festivities of the day have died down, I thought I would share with you some of what we did in Primary classes to develop this at school and ensure that students experienced more from other countries than just food and flags.

One of the hallmarks of a Northbridge International School Cambodia education is our focus on inquiry in our instructional processes. Students at every level are provided the opportunities to deeply explore concepts and practice inquiry based skills like communication, critical thinking, and investigation.

Christmas started early for the students, parents, teachers, and staff who are a part of the Northbridge Community Choir. On Sunday 4 November they sang at the Women’s International Group’s (WIG) annual Christmas Fair.

As education develops over the years, certain trends take on importance at different times due to contextual and historical demands as well as what we learn about brain development and the way in which children learn. Sir Ken Robinson, a leading voice in education, has given various lectures on what he believes is currently needed in education, and I encourage anyone with an interest in education to view this as it is very thought provoking.

One of the advantages of Northbridge being part of the Nord Anglia family of schools is the opportunity it allows us to connect with students around the world. This year, through Global Campus, Nord Anglia Education is holding a worldwide creative writing contest to develop our students’ international awareness centered on the UNESCO Sustainable Development World Goal 4: Quality Education through shared learning experiences.

Real world experience in the design process along with current technology are opportunities we strive to deliver to our students in Design.

Next Friday we will have a wonderful time together as a community celebrating the rich cultural diversity we have in our school.

This past weekend the Northbridge Nagas Senior Volleyball team competed at the local ISSAPP Finals at ISPP.
