Why I became a teacher: Hear about what inspired our teachers to become educators

Our teachers walk alongside our students, guiding them through challenges and celebrating their successes. They believe every child is unique, deserving to be understood, encouraged and seen for who they are. And, of course, they are truly passionate about their profession, committed to delivering academic excellence in the classroom.
Teaching is more than a job – it's a vocation
Ask our teachers, and they’ll tell you there’s no job quite like teaching. From sharing your passion for a subject to having a job where every day is different, there are many reasons why people choose careers in education.
Hear our teachers’ stories
So, what inspired our exceptional educators to get into teaching?
In this film, you’ll discover our teachers’ motivations and experiences. You’ll also find out why they look forward to coming to NAIS Pudong every day.
What makes a great teacher?
While the motivations behind going into teaching often differ, the qualities that make a great teacher are universal. These attributes are shared by our educators and evidenced in our classrooms.
In-depth subject knowledge
Our teachers’ understanding of and love for their specialism shines through in lessons, and transfers to our students. Their ability to personalise learning to different needs and interests stems from a deep understanding of the subject matter.
Unbridled passion and enthusiasm
The moment one of NAIS Pudong’s inspirational teachers step into the classroom, something magical happens. Their energy transforms subjects into captivating learning experiences, creating a growth mindset in our students.
A willingness to learn and grow
Inspiring teachers stay on top of the latest research and actively undertake training that builds new and existing skills. At NAIS Pudong, this includes cutting-edge CPD through the Nord Anglia University platform.
Setting high standards
A great teacher sets high expectations, which empower students to realise their potential. Our educators encourage mutual respect, good behaviour, and hard work, too. They also understand that every student learns differently and has unique goals.
Creating communities
Warm, caring, and open, our teachers make sure our students feel comfortable in the classroom. They encourage learners to share ideas in a supportive environment that has a real sense of belonging.
Excellent communication skills
Our Nord Anglia-trained teachers are experts at getting their message across in lessons. They also create strong connections with students on a personal level, as well as building positive relationships with parents.
Adaptability
No two days are the same at NAIS Pudong! And if a lesson isn’t working, or a student needs extra support, our teachers have the confidence to adapt. Flexibility is one of the major skills that make a great teacher.
