Dover Court International School’s Drama Department brought C.S. Lewis’ The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe to life in a breathtaking production featuring 81 Secondary students. With live percussion, striking choreography, and ambitious puppetry, this unforgettable performance showcased creativity, collaboration, and the transformative power of theatre.

A Collaborative and Immersive Storytelling Experience

At the heart of the production was an innovative, ensemble-based approach to storytelling. Every student played a meaningful role in creating the world of Narnia through narration, movement, and character work.

The result was a theatrical experience that felt epic in scale while remaining deeply connected to the emotional heart of the story.

Live Music, Movement and Choreography

One of the production’s most distinctive features was the integration of live percussion, performed by students on stage. The original score of rhythms and sound motifs created atmosphere, built tension, and drove the narrative forward.

Combined with dynamic movement and dance, the choreography played a vital role in shaping the mood of the performance – capturing the wonder of Narnia, the threat of the White Witch, and the joy of Narnia’s liberation. Dance and movement sequences provided some of the most memorable sequences of the performance and showcased the breadth of talent within the cast.

Inclusive Opportunities Through Dual-Casting

The production embraced dual-casting, providing even more students with the opportunity to take on principal roles. This inclusive approach reflects the values of the DCIS Drama Department and supports students in developing confidence, resilience, and performance skills, ensuring that a greater number of students could experience the challenge and excitement of performing major roles on stage.

Ambitious Puppetry and Technical Excellence

A standout moment of the production was the introduction of large-scale puppetry. The magnificent Aslan puppet became a true centrepiece of the show.

Operated by a highly skilled team of Year 9 student puppeteers, Annabelle, Anjali, and Josephine, every movement demonstrated exceptional precision and artistry. Paired with the powerful voice performance by Elyse (Year 9), Aslan’s presence was both commanding and deeply moving. This was a remarkable theatrical achievement that left audiences in awe and showcased the creativity and ambition of the production team.
