Energetic Experiment

The IBDP Chemistry Year 12 students have done their first experiment in their new topic: Energetics. We used our new calorimeters for the first time to investigate the temperature change when magnesium ribbon is added to hydrochloric acid. We then used the change in temperature to determine whether it was an exothermic or endothermic reaction and go on to calculate the heat lost as energy. We are picking up lab skills quickly! The more experiments we do the better equipped we are to complete our IAs at the end of the term.
