SSA Basketball (directed by Saigon Heat) is Saigon's leading basketball training program and they are leading sessions at BIS HCMC.

On Wednesday 18th November, the BIS badminton teams travelled to Saigon South International School, to take part in the U11 SISAC Badminton Tournament.

On Friday 30th of October, year 12 and 13 students of Business and Management and Design and Technology had the pleasure of visiting the Pepsico factory in the Amata Industrial Zone.

his morning the children in year 5 finished this terms IPC topic of ‘Space’ with a bang, as they blasted off rockets on the playground. Both classes have been working tirelessly at home for the past two weeks to complete their missiles.

This week we meet two teachers, one who has joined us with her family from their previous posting in Cairo, Egypt and the second from the Isle of Wight in the UK. I am happy to report that both have settled in really well to AP1 and a wonderful addition to our teaching staff and BIS community.

Our Basketball teams have been busy this term with 2 recent fixtures against Tu Xuong and AIS. One home match and one away match gave the students the opportunity to put into action the skills learned with their coaches Mr Richard and Mr John.

The Eco-Warriors once again their classroom monitoring, and it’s great to see that children remember to switch all electrical gadgets, air conditioners and lights off, and to use the recycle bins. TX children know how to be green.

The top scoring 35 Students from the ABRSM Examinations in June were invited to perform their favourite piece at the High Scorers’ Concert, which BIS was proud to host on Saturday 19th September.

For the next few weeks we will be introducing our new staff and asking them some questions about how they have settled into BIS and Vietnam. Moving countries as many of us know is not an easy thing to do, to up root from family and friends, to leave all you know that is safe and secure can be daunting for some but we are delighted that our new staff this year have take the risk and have joined us here at AP1.

It's been a very exciting new year in Year 1! The children have settled in so well and have been eager to share stories from their holidays and make lots of new friends. Our first IPC topic 'Who am I?' has already seen the children drawing and labelling their bodies.

After school on Monday a group of about 40 parents and teachers attended 'Afternoon Tea' at Villa Royale in District 2. It was a truly British event with a wide selection of teas, and scones with jam and cream!

Over the weekend of 29th & 30th August, 10 TBS staff and our engineer visited 3 schools in the Dhading province. These schools have been the focus of our Sixth form charity project for the last 5 years and TBS charities has committed the funds to the rebuilding of all 3 schools. During the weekend our team visited all 3 schools as well as meeting with the Dhading educational authority. (Right - A temporary classroom at Gayetri Devi Primary School).

The theme for this half-term’s work on developing children’s social, emotional and behavioural skills is ‘New Beginnings’ During the term we will be exploring how to create a learning environment that helps the children learn together in a happy, busy and safe way.

Knighted in 2003 for his services to education, Sir John Jones epitomises the very best of British education, and this week he has invigorated our teachers prior to the start of our 2015-2016 Academic Year.

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s iconic musical ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’ finally came to BIS. With its family-friendly storyline, catchy songs and colourful costumes it was an ideal choice for the Year 6 production. Joseph was obviously his father’s favourite and therefore disliked by his brothers. Deciding to get rid of him, they sell him as a slave. How would Joseph survive in the far off land of Egypt? Would he ever be able to forgive his brothers? As the drama unfolded, the presence of characters like Joseph (all six of them!), his brothers, Pharaoh and Potiphar made you laugh and cry along the way.

The uniform shop at the Secondary Campus will be open in the auditorium from 8am to 4pm each day from 12th August to allow students to collect their uniforms. If you are unable to come into school before the start of the new school year, you may collect your uniform from the uniform shop on the first floor of the Secondary Campus from Wednesday 26 August onwards. Lockers: Students will be able to select a locker and place their own padlock on it during the school day on Wednesday 26 August. Lockers are allocated on a first come, first served basis so please make sure your child comes to school with their padlock on the first day. We recommend a combination padlock since this solves the problem of lost keys!

There has been much fun and excitement in ICT this term, with our pupils combining the different skills they have learnt and applying them to various situations. From F3 pupils creating Animations, to Year 6 pupils designing, creating and publishing their very own websites.
