Caving, rafting, and zip lining were just some of the most amazing challenges that the Year 6’s overcame last week on their visit to the Malaysian jungle. But nothing could have prepared them for the most challenging feat of them all…. no AC!!

From 17th-21st May, this huge annual sporting event witnessed 6 British international schools across Asia assemble at the Nord Anglia International School, Pudong, China, to compete in 4 tournaments over three days. 240 children from years 4, 5 & 6 competed against each other in Athletics, Swimming, Tee Ball, and Football.

Year 5 have just returned from a visit to the Vietnam Waste Solutions Facility, where they have learned all about waste in Vietnam. The trip links with the Year 5 IPC unit, Sustainability.

We have had another fantastic term in Friendship Club. Every week the children from BIS HCMC meet with our community partners from Binh Trieu school.

The annual expedition to Gopeng Earth Camp in Malaysia is taking place over these two weeks and our first wave of students just got back.

Year 4s are really getting stuck in to their IPC topic ‘The Active Planet’. There have been many highlights including learning about forces of nature through peer presentations, a chance to ask a real live geologist questions via Skype and a disaster relief workshop led by Amelie’s mum.

With all of Year 6 in Malaysia a depleted year 5 only TX football squad travelled to The American International School to compete in the Boys SISAC Football Championships.

Class teachers at An Phu Primary had the first of what we hope will be many future collaborations with the Design Technology team at An Phu Secondary.

On Saturday 13th & 14th May over 440 swimmers took part in the 6th Annual ISHCMC Invitational Swim Meet 2017. There were swimmers from 10 International Schools from Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and Cambodia.

Analytical Chemistry competitions have grown in popularity over recent decades and BIS HCMC just staged one for the very first time.

The newly formed FOBISIA Youth Choir of Ho Chi Minh City comprising 60 students from ABC International School, BVIS and BIS have been rehearsing hard for months in preparation for their first ever concert. They are performing with the International Choir and Orchestra of Ho Chi Minh City as well as singing 3 songs on their own. The concert also features the Asian premiere of Zimbe! – a fusion of traditional African songs and jazz.

Sometimes it can be hard to get up on a Monday morning, but all year our swim squad have been doing exactly that. At 7am each Monday, Wednesday and Friday they have been training hard in our pool before school.

Many humans are driven to achieve ‘extremes’ when the right combination of factors come together. You compete in an IRONMAN not because you have to, but because you want to.

On 11th May, BIS HCMC sent a team of four YR8 students to China to the FOBISIA Secondary Mathematics Competition held at the British School of Beijing.

On 7th May 2017 in the beautiful coastal city of Danang, 1398 starters began the IRONMAN 70.3 Vietnam and among them were members of the BIS HCMC community.

The FOBISIA Writing Competition winners from APP, TX and BVIS gathered together on Friday 28th April for a creative writing workshop in the Imaginarium at BVIS.

Lewis Carroll wrote, ‘Sometimes, I’ve believed as many as 6 impossible things before breakfast’. Following extensive hard work and commitment in their extra-curricular club time and recent rehearsals, our Production Club ensured that what once may have seemed impossible, became a reality on Thursday evening.

On Friday 21 April, we were fortunate enough to be visited by the Juilliard Alumni Violinist Nicole Jeong. We had a fantastic day of music making and her playing was outstanding.

The famous German philosopher, Friedrich Nietzsche said, 'All I need is a sheet of paper and something to write with, and then I can turn the world upside down'. Following an extensive Year 5 and Year 6 English unit of writing based upon researching famous orators and what language makes great speeches, on Thursday evening, the finalists took to the stage.
