The Community Project for Year 8 involves visiting Thao Dien School for Disabled Children during their ILS lesson. This year, each year 8 class will be visiting Thao Dien twice to do the different activities that they have prepared.

Our Weekly Wellbeing focus on Monday established the theme of this week as Attitude for Gratitude which we swiftly followed up on Tuesday with a thought provoking performance of 100 causing us all to consider our most important lifetime memories. On Wednesday we shared our gratitude with Country Representatives in a coffee morning as a thank you for their tremendous efforts on International Day. Today the atmosphere was deeply reflective in our Remembrance Day assembly as we were caused to consider the human impact of conflict and how we can best build a better and more peaceful world. I hope you enjoy reading this week’s newsletter and can get an understanding of how this week’s events have reminded us of the importance of our emotional connections, how much we can benefit from them and how they enrich our lives.

What is Phonics? This week the F3 and MP1 parents joined together to learn more about how phonics is used to teach their children to read and write.

Our EAL team update us on the energetic activities our Year 1 and 2 children have been getting up to in this term's EAL lessons. From bossy verbs, adjectives and time connectives, the children have been learning an awful lot since the start of term including how to make slime!

On Sunday the 5th of November, 6 international schools in Ho Chi Minh City, including 70 musicians from BIS HCMC came together to perform at the annual charity fundraising event; Saimuse.

15 students from BIS HCMC have received an Outstanding Cambridge Learner Award to celebrate their exceptional achievement in the 2017 Summer IGCSE series, with 2 students achieving the highest standard mark in the world for Mathematics.

We are delighted to welcome our new Business and Economics Teacher and Head of Year 10, Mr Robbie Alexander to BIS HCMC.

This is a wonderful whole school community event connecting students from Year 5, 6 & 7 and our community partner students who we work closely with throughout the year.

This month staff received training from Educational Psychologist Angie Wigford on how to help children develop Emotional Resilience. She shared with us the importance of looking after the mental health of our children and giving them strategies to cope with issues that arise in everyday life.

The Geography Department held their annual photography competition earlier than usual this year in order to link up with the Nord Anglia Education Young Photographer of the Year contest.

Over the last 18 months the BIS HCMC Primary Curriculum has undergone a complete review.  We have created a bespoke Curriculum, beginning with Early Years in Foundation 1, moving into Year 1 straight through the primary years to the end of Year 9.

The Geography Department firmly believe that learning outside of the classroom plays a fundamental role in allowing our students to build a deeper understanding and a stronger connection with the world around them, along with appreciating the challenges and possibilities that may impact their lives and communities in the future.

As we come to the end of our first half term of the year, I would like to thank all of you for your continued support as we strive to provide the very best education for every child within our school community.

The Lego club is an opportunity for fun and working together. The children mix into teams to complete a Lego challenge and then have time to work on their own creations too.

Our History Subject Ambassadors called their Houses together, to see whose historical knowledge beats all the rest in the inaugural History Inter-House Quiz.

12 primary students from across BIS HCMC and BVIS HCMC came together on Tuesday 17th October for the Final of the Young Musician of the Year Competition 2017.

It is a very exciting time in the history of the British International School, Ho Chi Minh City. The opening of the BIS Early Years and Infant Campus in January 2018, will bring together all members of the BIS community into one place for the first time.
