Year 2 have been enjoying a new IPC topic, ‘All Dressed Up’. After learning about the weather and climate around the world, and how this impacts on the clothes we wear, we moved on to learning about clothes throughout history. This culminated in a trip to the Bao Tang Ao Dai museum.

United Nations International School Model United Nations (UNISMUN) is a 3 day, annual conference hosted by UNIS Hanoi. With 18 different international schools from all over South-East Asia participating, there were over 300 international students at the event, including 18 students representing BIS HCMC.

The BIS HCMC U14B Boys Football team headed across Ho Chi Minh City to AmIS in District 7 for the City Championships last Thursday, leaving the championships with the second place trophy!

The Spring Fair is one of the highlights of the PTG and whole school calendar. A huge amount of work goes into making this event happen ensuring a wonderful day for all of our BIS community.

Saturday 3rd February saw over 350 swimmers from 8 different schools compete in the two BIS HCMC swimming pools in a day of high excitement, gritty determination and maximum performance from all who took part.

This week we have been lucky enough to have been visited by Paul Murphy, our Juilliard Curriculum Mentor. This is now Paul’s fifth visit to BIS HCMC where he has met many of our staff and students.

On Tuesday 6th February, our U9, U11, U14 and U19 students from both our primary and secondary campuses headed to the golf course in District 7 for the SISAC Cross Country City Championships.

On Saturday 27th January, a group of our extremely talented athletes competed in the SISAC Athletics City Championships. This competition, held at SSIS invites local schools in Ho Chi Minh City to compete in a range of track and field events. After their success in the U15 FOBISIA Games in Term 1, our students continued to show the BIS HCMC spirit of ambition and determination by winning 4 out of the 6 group divisions!

On Saturday a group of very excited Year 6 children took their first steps towards a life underwater with their PADI Discover Scuba Diving Course.

Student-led club Greenr Minds has initiated the Upcycling House Competition at BIS HCMC, Secondary Campus in the hopes of creating new and useful products out of old school uniforms.

To reflect that we are now one primary school over two campuses, we have removed any reference in the name of the year group blogs regarding Tu Xuong or An Phu Campuses. All blogs now have the acronym BISHCMC at the beginning of the web address.

With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, Mrs Murphy’s Year 8 class were in the mood for love this week with Poetry Speed Dating.

For this week's 'Meet the Teacher' our Year 12 students, Jamie and Ji Min speak to College and University Guidance Counsellor, Ms Halliwell. Ms Halliwell joined BIS HCMC in 2017 after working in international admissions and recruitment at the University of Manchester.

In order for our students to benefit from experiential learning, we carefully plan annual trips to provide a range of age-appropriate yet challenging opportunities to develop personal qualities such as leadership, independence, perseverance and a respect for different cultures through community service programmes and of course physical endeavour.

With the world that we now live in we have become more reliant on digital devices for both our work and personal lives. Cellphones, tablets and computers allow us to be connected to the world at all times and we are only now discovering the positive and negative impact that this level of connectivity is having on our lives. With our introduction of the BYOD programme this year it is important that we reflect on our students and how they use their devices outside the classroom.

The student-led club Green Minds has established e-waste collection bins around all BIS HCMC campuses from which collected electronics will be recycled.

For this week's 'Meet the Teacher' our Year 12 students, Jamie and Ji Min speak to Head of Mathematics, Mr Williams. Mr Williams joined BIS HCMC in August 2017 from Dorset in the UK. He has previous experience in international teaching in a variety of countries including Jakarta, Ecuador and Costa Rica. Andy Dang, a Year 8 student here at the British International School, Ho Chi Minh City has recently returned from the Kids Golf World Championships in Malaysia as champion of his division.

Early in November more than forty students from the European International School came to visit the APS library.

Tết is the most important celebration in Vietnamese culture, honouring the arrival of spring. The celebration brings with it delicious food like bánh chưng, bánh dày, dưa hấu and traditional customs such as ancestor worship, wishing New Year's greetings and giving lucky money. Tết symbolises the time of the year where people can forget about the troubles of the past year and look towards the future.
