Today we welcomed back to school 40 Year 5 and 6 athletes that represented our school this past week at the FOBISIA Primary Games in Phuket Thailand. I have been keeping up to date with their progress on Twitter and it has been wonderful to see their hard work and effort over the last 2 terms pay off as the medal count increased day by day.

On Saturday 26th May, 72 Year 13 students came together with over 400 of their teachers, family members and friends to celebrate their Graduation at the Park Hyatt, Saigon. It was a special ceremony filled with an array of emotions; great excitement for what lies ahead for our graduating Class of 2018, tinged with some sadness as we said our fond farewells.

This week Dr Angie Wigford ran 3 workshops on how a child’s brain develops. This then led onto a discussion on how important playfulness, acceptance, curiosity and empathy were in developing resilience.

The girls’ uniform is changing! From August 2018 girls at BIS HCMC Secondary Campus will be wearing a new-style skort that reflects the lifestyle of our students.

On Saturday 26th May, BIS HCMC took 3 teams to the Junior Saigon Mathematics Competition held at ISHCMC.

The Science team and students at BIS HCMC Secondary Campus are looking forward to welcoming the new Year 7 students in August 2018.  Our teachers  are constantly striving to ensure the Year 6 students from the Junior Campus have a smooth transition into Year 7. To this end, they have created a unique transition programme within Science.

Join us on Monday 18th June at the BIS HCMC Secondary Campus as we hold the final of our 2018 Dragons' Den Competition.

On Thursday 17th May, Year 10 and 12 Chemistry students were set a challenge: to make the world’s most accurate chemical clock.

From 2013-2015, Lara Wilkinson was a primary PE teacher here at the British International School, Ho Chi Minh City. Since leaving Vietnam to go back to the UK, Lara has combined her passion for hockey with a charity close to her heart; Help for Heroes. We speak to her about her upcoming challenge Operation Endure where her ladies hockey squad will be completing 8 military challenges and 28 hockey matches in just 8 days.

"The Magic Finger" by Roald Dahl is a humorous, engaging story that Year 2 classes have loved sharing together. Using the 3 stages of the Talk for Writing process; imitation, innovation and invention find out how the book has been used as a stimulus for creative writing though this post by Mr Matthew Dudley.

On the morning of Thursday the 17th of May, Ms Husband, Mr Alexander and 10 of our Key Stage 3 musicians left school at 6.30am to make their way to the airport for their flight to Jakarta, Indonesia to attend the FOBISIA Music Intermediate Festival 2018. Ms Husband provides the highlights of the much-anticipated trip.

This month saw the annual IRONMAN 70.3 Vietnam race return to the beautiful coastal city of Da Nang with more than 1,600 people from 56 countries and territories fighting for a podium position. Amongst the thousands who turned up to compete in these races were teachers, students and parents from BIS HCMC, ready to show Da Nang what they’re made of!

Please find enclosed our newly updated Driver’s Code of Conduct intended for all those who drive to our school campuses both at drop off and pick up times. With key information in both English and Vietnamese, our aim is to further educate our drivers to make better choices when they enter the areas around our school campuses and within the Thao Dien area as a whole.

This week, our parents and teachers came together and celebrated the many successes of our PTG over the last 12 months. For me, the PTG epitomises the spirit of community within BIS HCMC. It helps to bring together our children, parents, teachers and community as a whole to celebrate what is special about our school.

On Monday, Year 6 children visited Minh Long Pottery company in Binh Duong province as a part of their Vietnamese culture lessons. Before the visit, the children have been learning all about pottery and designed the patterns to decorate their own pottery products.

On Tuesday we travelled to SSIS to take on the best teams from around Saigon in the annual SISAC City Championships. With 5 schools to take on, the boys had to be on top form.

This Wednesday our Year 5 FOBISIA team entered into the SISAC City Championships as preparation for their FOBISIA Games at the end of this month.

As we approach the end of the 2017/18 academic year here at BIS HCMC, we are looking ahead to what the future holds for our outgoing Year 13 IB Diploma students. In this post, we talk to student-swimmer Jeremie Luong.

BIS HCMC have had the pleasure of working with Binh Tho School for the past 5 years. Binh Tho children visit us throughout the year and take part in a number of different activities with our students, such as: F3 playdates, Project Impact (Secondary), Friendship club and Busy Hands (Junior).
