Here at the British International School Ho Chi Minh City, we have pledged to remove all single-use plastic from all three of our campuses by 2020. This is an exciting step in ensuring that we teach our students about sustainable living and a crucial part of meeting the Global Goals for Sustainable Development.

An integral part of our performing arts collaboration here at BIS HCMC are visits by Juilliard alumni. These visits are a transformative experience designed to inspire students in the performing arts. This week we were visited by Jason Crimi, the Associate Principal Trombone of the Seoul Philharmonic orchestra.

On Saturday 23rd June, 40 members of BIS HCMC's community, including students, parents and teachers from across our 3 campuses, set out to clean up Thao Dien.

As part of Nord Anglia Education’s collaboration with UNICEF, selected student ambassadors will visit New York from 6-13 July for the NAE–UNICEF Student Summit regarding the United Nation’s Global Goals for Sustainable Development.

Children are endlessly full of interest, curiosity and questions and all these were charmingly evident this week as F3 rounded off our International Week learning to visit the various waterways at Binh Quoi Tourist Village.

On Friday 15th June BIS HCMC Secondary hosted its first Sports Awards Ceremony. This was a night of celebration and joyful reflection, highlighting the success of the students, coaches and teams that represented BIS at home and abroad this academic year.

On Monday 18th July, Year 10 Business Studies students took part in the annual Dragons' Den Final Competition.

Congratulations to everyone who participated at the recent Mile Post 2 and 3 Inter-House Swim Galas. A great spectacle of individual swim strokes and team relays were witnessed, with every swimmer winning house points, and tallying to an overall house team total for the event.

From sausage rolls to samosas, fairy bread to curry puffs, papaya salad to crepes, bubble tea to sushi, every taste was catered for once more at our Primary Global Café 2018.

On Monday 11th June we were delighted to share with the local community the hard work of 4 year 13 BIS HCMC artists who have recently completed their International Baccalaureate Visual Arts course.

Students in F1 and F2 are learning to show care for animals with the help of our community partner, Animal Rescue and Care (ARC). ARC were also presented with a donation from funds raised at the PTG Spring Fair.

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) provides a challenging and rewarding educational experience based on the philosophy that students should embrace enquiry and apply critical thinking skills to real world situations. We developed these core skills through our IBDP Group 4 Project; using science to survive a zombie apocalypse.

Last Saturday we held our annual primary aquathlon. In the biggest turnout yet over 160 students dragged themselves out of bed at 6.00am to swim and run their hearts out. They were competing for individual and team honours as well as scoring points for their houses.

On Friday 8th June, 50 of our Key Stage 2 and 3 students were involved in the 2nd Ho Chi Minh City FOBISIA music event.

The annual U11 SISAC Table Tennis Championship took place on Friday 1st June, 2018 with a record number of players. The quality of the tournament continues to develop with the participation of 8 teams from 7 different schools in Ho Chi Minh City; BIS, AIS, SIS, BVIS, ISHCMC, AMIS NB and AMIS NVC.

From 27th-31st May, this huge annual sporting event witnessed 6 British international schools across Asia competing in 4 tournaments over three days, on the island of Phuket in Thailand.

As part of our collaboration with the world’s leading performing arts institute; The Juilliard School we will be welcoming Juilliard alumni Jason Crimi to BIS HCMC on Tuesday 26th June. Jason will be performing for both our Primary and Secondary school students and we will be holding a Community Concert from 6:30pm in the Secondary Campus auditorium.

This year, with the support from the Secondary PTG, we have been able to pay for 4 elementary scholarships and 3 university scholarships for underprivileged children through the CNCF scholarship programme.

This week, the Secondary Campus has had a rather different feel as our Year 9, 10 and 12 students have sat their end of year assessments. This is an appropriate moment for us to reflect on the purpose of these assessments.
