Dear Parents, In her essay, “The Pandemic is a Portal”, Indian novelist, Arundhati Roy, invites us to see the current moment as a turning point in history, as a moment of change, she writes: “Coronavirus has brought the world to a halt like nothing else could. Our minds are still racing back and forth, longing for a return to normality, Refusing to acknowledge the rupture, but the rupture exists, and in the midst of this terrible despair, it gives us a chance to rethink. Nothing could be worse than a return to normality. Historically, pandemics have forced humans to break with their past and imagine their world anew. This one is no different. It is a portal. A gateway between one world and the next.”

It was a welcomed sight to see our BIS Junior football teams competing against AIS this week.

In assemblies this week our Secondary students were given a brief tour of Global Campus, the online platform that connects our 66,000+ students from NAE schools around the world.

Dear Parents and students, We are extremely fortunate to be able to make our home in this wonderful country. With the recent devastating floods and landslides caused by torrential rain in central Vietnam, the BIS school community mobilised this week to find ways in which to urgently raise much needed financial aid in support of those most affected.

Across many cultures there is a common principle that is accepted as a simple way of finding individual and community wellbeing: that is to focus on what we have, not what we don't have.

Last Saturday, on 19th September, over 130 members of the BIS HCMC school community, including students, parents and teachers from across the 3 campuses, joined volunteers worldwide and in the city to participate in World CleanUp Day.

Last week in the library we celebrated the popular author Roald Dahl’s birthday!

Many new children began their full time program in F1 this week. The children have been fantastic and have grown in confidence and independence. This week they have continued to build on their new school experiences by visiting the specialist teachers in their spaces and we are very proud of how well the children have settled.

Student leadership is an integral part of the school life here at BISHCMC and for Year 6 this means an opportunity to be part of the school council executive committee, or to take on the role of House Captain.
