I know you will join me in congratulating our Year 13 students who finished the May 2021 IB Diploma Programme Examinations yesterday. In any year it is a huge achievement to complete such a broad and rigorous academic curriculum, but given the challenges of the last 16 months, our Class of 2021 have really shown incredible spirit, determination and togetherness in the way they have completed the journey of the IB Diploma Programme.

With an average attendance of over 99%, we have been delighted by the engagement of our students in their Virtual School this week.

We have all become familiar with adapting to unfamiliar and complex challenges over this last year. Just when we think we have become adept, new challenges emerge - new challenges which test our character.

What a wonderful week we had celebrating all things to do with books, from fiction to nonfiction to illustrations and everything in between!

This week was a momentous one in the life of the Secondary Campus. This week not only marked the departure of our year 11 and Year 13 students as they commence their period of study leave prior to their IGCSE and IBDP examinations- but also the simply stunning School Production of Bonnie and Clyde.

Each year BIS HCMC joins other students from across NAE schools in the Visual Arts competition. Each school is able to submit one entry for each of four age categories: Under 8s, 8-11, 11-14, and 14+, and these are fiercely contested places.

As part of IPC, Year 2 explore the ways humans can both protect and harm the environment, form and share opinions about the world we live in, and communicate their geographical understanding in a variety of ways. The production of Eddie the Penguin was certainly a unique way of sharing what had been learnt!

Community is at the heart of BIS. As we see the community working together again, we can look forward to achieving more.

One of the highlights of the school year took place this week as we held our IB Visual Arts Exhibition 2021. This year’s was perhaps the most striking exhibition in BIS history. As I walked up the stairs of the exhibition venue, it was a breathtaking experience to be met by such a wonderful collection of pieces, curated so thoughtfully. It has been said that “A work of art is never completed, it is merely abandoned”- it was moving to see our students abandon their work to public view with such thought and courage - taking pride in the hundreds of hours of deliberate practice and refinement that enabled them to arrive at that moment. My congratulations to each of them on such a significant achievement and thanks to all for making it such a well attended event

This week saw our Year 11 students complete the fourth and final session in their series of four rotational activities designed to contribute to positive emotions, engagement, relationships, meaning, accomplishment and health (PERMAH).

The Saigon Enterprise Challenge entrepreneurial competition has been in existence for over 10 years. At its heart is the aim to provide Year 12 students with an opportunity to develop a product or service from inception to production and experience what it involves to run a small business.

This week’s update showcases the leadership of BIS students across so many different fields. Whether designing learning for our community partners in our Science Labs, hosting a Global Issues Network Conference, launching ethical business start-ups as part of Saigon Challenge, participating in the NAE Global STEAM Challenge or driving our upcoming student led Mental Health Awareness Week- our students put their values into action to make change.

This week saw our Year 11 students enjoy the third of their series of four rotational activities designed to contribute to positive emotions, engagement, relationships, meaning, accomplishment and health (PERMAH). Read about it in detail.

It was our pleasure to be able to host the Global Issues Network (GIN) Saigon Conference 2021 at BIS last weekend. Find out what this years conference was all about and what our students had to say.

We are coming to the end of our Talk for Writing topic, ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears,’ and what better way to celebrate all the children’s hard work than by going on a Teddy Bear’s Picnic.

This week we heard that we can have parents back on site for some of our events and we are delighted.

As the dry season approaches its’ zenith it traditionally heralds the beginning of the competition season in Mathematics.

After school this week, Mr James Chandler challenged all staff to see if they were smarter than an 11 year old and complete a Year 7 DT project.
