For more than 20 years, the Saola has been part of the BIS HCMC crest, symbolising our Vietnamese home and our commitment to protect what matters most. Now, that symbol has stepped beyond the crest and into school life as our first-ever sports mascot — brought to life by our Year 12 Enrichment Prefects.

An unforgettable experience in Houston Texas, that taught our students about leadership, collaboration and a united commitment in designing creative solutions to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. We hear directly from Devon, Martin, and SeeEun as they share their inspiring journey in a beautifully written blog—capturing every moment, reflection, and discovery along the way.

At BIS HCMC, leadership is more than just a title — it’s about inspiring others, fostering a sense of community, and embracing personal growth. This year’s Head Students, in Year 13, — Atom, JaeYeon, Tim, and Serena — embody these values with authenticity and dedication, each bringing their unique strengths, creativity, and passion to their roles.

Last month we were proud to have three student ambassadors attend this year’s NAE-UNICEF Student Summit, hosted for the first time ever in Houston, Texas from 12 to 19 June 2024.  The event was hosted at Nord Anglia’s two schools in the city: The Village School and the British International School of Houston. Houston was chosen as the ideal location for the Summit thanks to being the first officially recognised “Child-Friendly City” in the United States of America.

Meet Michelle - a BIS HCMC Year 13 student who transformed an unexpected pandemic move into a journey of leadership and academic success. We sat down with her to unlock the secrets to her success and how she secured a spot at Harvard, alongside 8 other US universities. 

Our Empowerment Club, with students from Year 7 to Year 12, carefully planned a series of activities for their peers for Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day on Friday 8th March. We visited the club to chat with their leaders Anvvita, Axelle and Tu Anh. 

At BIS we empower our students to take up leadership roles so that they can take action and make positive changes both locally and globally. One of the many ways students can make a difference at BIS and beyond is by representing the school as part of our student council. Last week two of our students, JaeYeon and Caitlin, joined over 100 NAE student delegates from around the world at the NAE-UNICEF Student Summit in New York City.  This was an extraordinary opportunity for them to develop their leadership and advocacy skills and collaborate with like-minded students to cultivate their social purpose through the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
