Students across all three BIS campuses recently enjoyed an unforgettable celebration of live music, as the Desford Colliery Brass Band, UK National Champions 2025, visited the school as part of a week-long programme of performances and workshops.

From his first performances on the BIS HCMC stage to leading roles on some of Australia’s exciting theatres and screens, BIS alumnus JK Kazzi has carved an extraordinary path in the world of acting. Shaped by IGCSE Drama, IBDP Theatre, a vibrant Performing Arts programme, and the encouragement of inspirational teachers, JK has gone on to train at NIDA, appear on national television, and earn glowing 5‑star reviews for his powerful and compelling stage performances. His journey reflects the confidence, creativity and courage nurtured during his years at BIS HCMC.

If you’ve seen one of our orchestras in full force, heard our choirs sing in harmony, or watched one of our musical or dramatical productions fueled by passion, creativity, quick wit and powerful performances, you’ll understand why Performing Arts at BIS HCMC is something special. These experiences rival professional productions on the global stage.

Last month it was an honour to welcome Mr Tim Rhys-Evans (MBE) to BIS HCMC for three days, to run a series of unique ‘Choral Singing Days’ for our students and wider community, as well as workshops  on university and career opportunities in the fields of music and performing arts. Mr Rhys-Evans is a renowned vocal teacher specialising in choral conducting and is currently the Musical Director at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and leader of the National Youth Choir of Wales. He is also the founder and musical director of the famous choirs; 'Only Men Aloud', 'Only Boys Aloud', 'Only Kids Aloud' and 'Only Girls Aloud'. 

From Slipknot to Taylor Swift, our BIS bands put on a show to remember last week, and all for our community partners! The incredible “Live Aid” concert was 100% organised by our secondary student Co-Curricular club “Make a Move” and make a move they did - raising 18 million VND for Heartbeat Vietnam and Laws for Paws. Discover how our students led this event from idea to execution, covering graphic design, marketing, event management and communication and how they rocked the Founders Auditorium.  

Dreams do come true if you follow your passions! This is certainly the case for Jenna, a BIS alumni, who received a scholarship from a prestigious performing arts school after completing her IGCSEs with us and is now performing on the west end AND nominated for the Black British Theatre Awards. Jenna talks to us about her journey and how her big role in our Bonnie and Clyde production gave her the confidence to pursue her dream. 

We were honoured to take part in celebrations organised by the British Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh with the British Embassy in Hanoi to mark 50 years of diplomatic relations between the UK and Vietnam. The main event in HCMC being the ‘UK Festival’ to showcase the best of everything British. The bond between the UK and Vietnam is going from strength to strength with education being one of their core themes to mark this important 50th anniversary. We were delighted to be involved and strengthen our already strong partnership with the British Consulate here in Ho Chi Minh City. 

As so many opportunities across the world for our young musicians to perform publicly have disappeared this year, Nord Anglia Education instead decided to launch a ‘Virtual Young Musician of the Year’ competition for all of their schools via the Global Campus site.

Vietnamese Lunar New Year, also known as Tet, is one of the most important celebrations of the year in Vietnam honouring the arrival of spring.

Last week saw three triumphant performances of the Key Stage 3 production of The Caucasian Chalk Circle (by Bertolt Brecht).

ABC International School, BVIS and BIS came together this week to celebrate musical talent in the FOBISIA Primary Young Musician of the Year Competition 2019.

This week we were privileged to have the renowned UK Singing Leader Lin Marsh come to BIS to run a series of choral singing workshops with our Junior Choir, parents and staff.

Over the weekend 19th-21st September, British International School Ho Chi Minh City hosted the FOBISIA Advanced Orchestral and Choral Festival 2019.

At BIS HCMC our students are encouraged to pursue their interests and to engage in a range of activities beyond the classroom setting.

This year’s Junior Summer Concert was a wonderful event, with the theme ‘Music Makes the World Go Round’, and featuring music from different cultures around the world.

At the beginning of the academic year, the production club began and consisted of children from Year 3-6.

This year’s FOBISIA Primary Music Festival was hosted by the British School Manila and featured the theme ‘Thriller in Manila’. It was a fantastic event for all involved. 2019 was the advent of BIS HCMC’s very first Week Without Walls. An entire week where we said goodbye to our timetables and our formal lessons.

An integral part of our performing arts collaboration here at BIS HCMC are visits by Juilliard alumni. These visits are a transformative experience designed to inspire students in the performing arts. This week we were visited by Jason Crimi, the Associate Principal Trombone of the Seoul Philharmonic orchestra.

On Friday 8th June, 50 of our Key Stage 2 and 3 students were involved in the 2nd Ho Chi Minh City FOBISIA music event.
