At the British International School HCMC, our Parent Teacher Group (PTG) is more than just supportive parents, they’re the heart of our community. Engaged, enthusiastic, and always ready to help, their impact stretches far beyond the school walls, building strong connections between students, staff and parents.

Year 9 is more than the final chapter of Key Stage 3 (KS3) of the English National Curriculum; it’s a pivotal year of transformation. It’s the point where students begin to personalise their learning to a much greater extent, preparing to enter the academic rigour of the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) programme.

With over 1,200 students, staff, and parents participating in the 5km run or walk, the event was a true reflection of the school’s commitment to fostering a strong sense of community.

BIS HCMC students have once again proven their mathematical prowess on the international stage, achieving outstanding success at two prestigious competitions.

From Slipknot to Taylor Swift, our BIS bands put on a show to remember last week, and all for our community partners! The incredible “Live Aid” concert was 100% organised by our secondary student Co-Curricular club “Make a Move” and make a move they did - raising 18 million VND for Heartbeat Vietnam and Laws for Paws. Discover how our students led this event from idea to execution, covering graphic design, marketing, event management and communication and how they rocked the Founders Auditorium.  

On Saturday 18th May, 102 students, split into two groups for two ceremonies, made their way to the Park Hyatt in District 1. Over at least 14 years this venue has witnessed thousands of BIS students graduate. Following in the footsteps of their predecessors, our Year 13s prepared to join the outstanding alumni of BIS HCMC.

BIS-Aware season on the Secondary campus was an opportunity to explore the breadth and depth of who ‘We Are’ as individuals and communities, it provided a platform to explore the Protected Characteristics, the hidden and lesser known stories that celebrate our strength and diversity. The purpose of this inaugural event was to promote Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (EDIB) to nurture a supportive community that encourages a sense of social responsibility and inclusion. This brings together both worldwide movements such as Black History Month and Women's History Month but also our own ‘in-house’ awareness event from the Identity Alliance group. This year our theme was ‘Sharing Stories’.

Our Empowerment Club, with students from Year 7 to Year 12, carefully planned a series of activities for their peers for Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day on Friday 8th March. We visited the club to chat with their leaders Anvvita, Axelle and Tu Anh. 

Our U13 sports squad took part in the first FOBISIA Games in 4 years, from Wednesday 15th to Sunday 19th March at the world-class Patana Sports Complex, near Pattaya in Thailand.  Our team of 28 students aged 11-13 competed against 6 other schools from the FOBISIA network, in swimming, athletics, basketball and football, in what is one of the most competitive International Sports Tournaments in Asia. In March our Junior and Secondary coders took part in 2 coding challenges competing against schools across Asia. The first challenge hosted by The British School of Manila, saw our senior team succeeding with their lost and found organisation platform, whilst the Junior competition, hosted by BIS HCMC, saw our teams winning best presentation across KS2 and KS3. During the month of February, our secondary students celebrated Black History Month through a range of cross-curricular activities. Discover how they recognised and celebrated the achievements of black figures in history through Art, Music, Literature and Politics.

On February 11th 2023 we officially opened the newly refurbished Auditorium with an unveiling ceremony attended by guests from executive committee of Nord Anglia Education and the British Consulate. Last Sunday our BIS HCMC community was out in force turning Sala into a vibrant sea of red and Union Jacks!  This was the return of the popular BritCham Charity Fun Run!

This week, the Secondary Campus has had a rather different feel as our Year 9, 10 and 12 students have sat their end of year assessments. This is an appropriate moment for us to reflect on the purpose of these assessments.

Developing a positive school culture for wellbeing is vital for achieving the desired outcomes for student happiness. However, at times we can all feel a little overwhelmed, particularly in an environment where there is a lot going on. Pressure to perform and improve drives us on and makes us better at what we do but ultimately, if we can’t manage pressure effectively it can lead to stress.

On Thursday 8th March 2018, a group of Year 11 students held the inaugural TEDxYouth@BISHCMC event, bringing together the local community in Ho Chi Minh City to share ‘ideas worth spreading’.

‘Unite to Progress’– this year’s theme at SAIMUN – has provoked insightful debate surrounding issues that may inhibit global development. Considering the nature of our world’s rapid growth, change and conflict, cooperation amongst nations is essential to ensuring a future where we resolve our issues and all infringements upon human rights cease to exist.

On Wednesday 28th March 2018, our student-gymnasts represented BIS HCMC in the annual BIS Invitational Gymnastics competition. There were over 50 competitors from BIS, BVIS and ISHCMC performing in both floor and vault routines, levels ranging from 1-4.
